When it comes to preparing for my Thursday posts, I tend to look back to my early introduction of fashion, magazines and photography. As a teenager and young adult I found myself escaping into this magical world where fantasy and make believe were allowed and actually encouraged. It was in those moments of truly losing myself in these other worlds that I began to find myself.
With my young self in mind, it is with great care that I comb through my boxes of paper tears (yes, it’s old school madness!) and online databanks (ones much older than Pinterest!). Sometimes I am on a mission, searching for a particular image that has been seared into my brain. Other times, as I page through my archives I stumble across an ad campaign or editorial that brings me back to the day I first laid eyes on it. If it evokes the same emotions I once had then that is Thursday’s material.
Today’s muse remains one of my favorite faces to see on film. Published for Vogue Italia in April, 2005, model Gemma Ward had become a fixture in magazines all over the world. Beyond a beautiful face, it was Ward’s ability to utilize the space around her with movement. Today’s editorial entitled, ‘Think Pink’ was photographed by Steven Meisel. It seems to the tell the tale of a day in the life of a dancer. I hope you enjoy these selections from the collection as much as I do. Happy dancing!
