The night had finally arrived that so many had anticipated; excitement bubbling over. On the evening of April 26th, 2017, the Chicago History Museum hosted FashioNext, a competition for teenagers whose dream it is to become a fashion designer. This year’s theme was ‘Welcome to Chicago, 2072’. Drawing from the museum’s collection ‘Making Mainbocher: The First American Couturier‘, the students had to put themselves in the shoes of the future. Specifically the year 2072. These young minds did not shy away from this abstract concept, but instead faced it head on.
With their work completed and proudly on display, the museum’s atmosphere was intoxicating with positive energy and excitement. The celebration was complete with delicious appetizers, a live DJ and cozy lounge areas. It was perfect for a family night out. I applaud the Chicago History Museum for organizing this terrific program that inspires today’s youth to not only dream, but to follow those dreams.
