This past Friday, March 31st was a night dedicated to Chicago stylists. The First Annual Style:Wars Runway Competition took place at the Insituto Cervantas Chicago located in Chicago’s River North neighborhood. The atmosphere oozed luxury with beautiful red drapery covering the ceiling. Guests were seated on comfy couches and chairs, placed on either side of the red carpet runway. In addition to the upcoming runway show, vendors were in attendance presenting goods such as natural beauty products, hair accessories, jewelry, clothing and even home decor! Contributing to the event’s vibe was a live performance by singer/songwriter Isaiah Grass. The energy in the venue continued to rise as the lights were lowered to begin this year’s Style:Wars!
The event featured the best fashion stylists in the city battling it out to be the first Style:Wars champion. The stylists were judged on their interpretations of the themes ‘Allure’, ‘Accessorizing’ and ‘Cohesion’. In addition to these three themes, a twist in the challenge was to style on a budget of no more than $500. Creativity was encouraged!
The stylists all showed off their versatility by showcasing a wide range of models: including men, women and even children. The styled models were of all shapes, sizes and age ranges, adding to the viewers appeal. Each look was judged by industry professionals and by the end of the evening, stylist Brittani Franklin was crowned the winner of this year’s Style:Wars! This year’s winner was awarded $250 towards to realreal.com, a Fashion Look Book, a $200 Judy Lockhart Luxury Gift Card and a Portfolio Building Fashion Photo Shoot. I Live in a Magazine congratulates Franklin on her big win!
Beyond the fashion and glamour of this year’s Style:Wars, it is important to acknowledge that a portion of ticket sales for this event went to support an organization called My Favorite Outfit. This program helps young girls develop a sense of self through personal style and in turn a sense of self confidence. My Favorite Outfit currently is teamed up with 27 Chicago area schools and each month works with over 90 at-risk youth. This program has been made possible by generous clothing donations and hard working volunteers. To learn more about My Favorite Outfit please click here.
