FashionBar Chicago wrapped up this season’s Chicago Fashion Week with a lavish Finale & Avant-Garde Competition show held at Fletcher Jones Audi Chicago. The night’s event showcased a fantastic runway presentation from designers Fabric Da Vinci, La Moda Munze, Chicago Playground by Rodnell Jones II, V.J.G Clothing and Mario Puga. Also included was designer Nikita Fairweather and her line of swimwear.

In addition to Chicago Fashion Week‘s grand finale, an Avant-Garde Competition was held amongst four designers: La Moda Munze, Chicago PlaygroundMario Puga and V.J.G Clothing. The key to this challenge was to incorporate elements that symbolize and speak to the city of Chicago. La Moda Munze featured a garment representing cancer awareness, love, beauty and life. Chicago Playground played to Chicago’s love of sports and showcased a jacket representing the spirit of Chicago’s athletic teams. Mario Puga‘s piece (Featured Image) played homage to Chicago’s famous skyline and its playful environment. The winning avant-garde design was by V.J.G Clothing, who referenced Chicago’s historic “gangster” persona, a la Al Capone and the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre in 1929.

The celebration also featured five golden, glamorous pieces from Kaori Semaj, the 2016 Chicago Fashion Week Avant-Garde Competition winner, worn with Holy Love Jewelry and makeup by Retail is Life.

In addition to fresh fashions presented this season, FashionBar Chicago‘s CEO, Tony Long aims to “bring awareness to ‘wellness’ as wellness is the foundation of fashion and beauty”. With that in mind, a percentage of the proceeds from Chicago Fashion Week will be benefiting the American Cancer Society of Illinois.
